Our 2025 Summer Adventures

As the leaves start to fall and Storm Amy rolls in, it feels like the perfect time to look back on what has been a truly magical summer here at Cocklebury Farmhouse Homes.

There’s something about summer that always feels special. Maybe it’s the sunshine, maybe it’s being outdoors more, but most of all, it’s creating new memories and learning new skills. This year, summer was all about choice, independence, and celebrating passions. Every plan we made came from the people we support: what they wanted to do, learn, and experience.

Celebrating People

Happy birthday to Tony, Tola, Dougie (who turned the big 5-0!), Pete and Robin. A special thank you goes to Christina for baking some truly incredible cakes — from Ghostbusters to Guinness World Records to football themes. Each one was as unique as the person it was baked for.

Sporting Moments

  • Ann completed the Cancer Research Race for Life with Angela and raised an amazing £500! Well done Ann!

  • David, our Swindon Town superfan, not only watched his team play but also met manager Ian Holloway and players Joe Snowdon, Jake Tabor and Paul Glatzel. He was so chuffed - thank you to the team for coming to say hello.

  • Jim, Steven and Christopher wanted to keep developing their skills with horse riding lessons - they got to do so many lessons in the sunshine.

  • Our rugby fans enjoyed a “Breakfast with Lewis Moody” (ex-England player) whilst watching the Lions vs Australia

  • We loved attending the Bob Cook games - competing in athletics and winning medals.

  • Tola, Jeffrey and Phillip had a fantastic night at the Wrestling.

  • We had a brilliant evening for the Cavaliers vs Cocklebury Rugby Match, raising over £3,000 for the Mixed Ability Rugby Tour. Thank you to the live bands, everyone that baked and crafted and for everyone who helped and supported. It was a really special evening.

Personalised Holidays

  • Pete went on holiday to Abergavenny, Wales. He got to explore markets, the Raglan Castle, and haunted pubs! He visited the oldest pub in Wales, where 180 people were reported to be hanged and it’s said to be one of the most haunted.

  • Jeremy discovered Windsor Castle, whilst Jim explored London embracing our British history!

  • Simon (our Registered Manager) took Pete and Andrew to rock out at an Iron Maiden concert.

  • Karen enjoyed a luxurious overnight stay at Bowood Hotel, complete with a massage and manicure at the spa followed by delicious food and drinks.

  • Becca went away to a lodge at the Cotswold Water Park, enjoying fish and chips and beautiful surroundings.

  • And of course, our 2-week trip to St Ives, Cornwall, a beautiful holiday with beaches, pasties and seaside adventures.

Everyday Joys

  • Renae indulged her love of garden centres, bought a new sun lounger, and enjoyed afternoons relaxing in her own garden.

  • “Ladies who lunch” outings took Renae and Karen to new places, while Ann returned to Weston-Super-Mare for her beloved arcades and pier walks.

  • Paul went to the Calne bike meet, then topped the day off with his favourite pepperoni pizza.

  • The Castle Combe Steam Rally brought thrills: Jeffrey adored the helter skelter, Jim admired emergency vehicles, and Karen went shopping for dresses.

  • And summer wouldn’t be summer without BBQs, ice cream at the Rowdy Cow, pub trips, Westonbirt walks, and picnics in Bath and Bristol.

Parties and Gatherings

  • Our summer party at the Rugby Club was filled with family, friends, live music and dancing. Adam sang My Way beautifully, while Jeremy wowed us with his ACDC moves.

  • Coffee & Cake afternoons were a monthly delight, welcoming neighbours and friends. Special mention to Jim, whose gluten-free lemon traybake and flapjack are now legendary!

Personal Milestones

  • Tony proudly received his passport, ready for future travels to Spain.

  • Ann celebrated one year volunteering at Oxfam – well done Ann!

  • Dougie learnt how to make carbonara.

Looking back, this wasn’t just a summer of events – it was a summer of choice, opportunity, and independence. Everyone’s journey looked different: some chased adventure, some enjoyed peace and relaxation, and many mixed a bit of both. That’s the beauty of person-centred living — it’s not about “one programme for everyone,” it’s about making sure each person’s summer feels exactly right for them.

As the season changes, we can’t wait to see what autumn brings.
