Walking High and Low for Children in Need
Children in Need’s aim is to Make Life Lighter for Children and young people across the UK. This year’s theme was the number 25 with the slogan "Challenge Yourself to 25”.
This year, the people we support wanted to celebrate Children in Need by raising awareness and challenging ourselves, and as a team, we wanted to create something truly inclusive and memorable for all.

Starting With a Housemates Meeting
We began with a Housemates meeting in November to discuss the cause, what the charity means to each of us and asked who would like to get involved this year. The response was instant and unanimous: we all wanted to take part.
A Walk, A Challenge, and a Picnic
We talked about challenges we’ve done in the past and a walk and a picnic was agreed. Dougie was keen to share that a flask with a hot drink would be a good idea, and Christopher was excited to wear his boots!
When one of our staff mentioned that Milk Hill is the highest point in Wiltshire, ideas began to spread. For Pete, the idea of taking on a real challenge and standing at the very top of Wiltshire captured his imagination.

Planning an Inclusive Challenge
Our Management team then worked together to shape the idea into something everyone could be part of. We wanted it to feel adventurous but still accessible to all. And with Children in Need’s theme of “25” this year, we found the perfect way to tie it all together.
We created three challenge routes:
Stanton St Quinton – the lowest point in Wiltshire, designed as a 2K walk
Milk Hill – the highest point in Wiltshire, designed as a 5K walk
John Coles Park – a fully accessible route, ensuring everyone had the chance to participate
Choosing the Challenge
The people we support chose which route they wanted to take on—whether that meant climbing to the top of the county, exploring the lowest point, or enjoying an accessible walk through John Coles Park. Once everyone had made their choice, we had spots and ears ready to go.
A Day to Remember
Each challenge brought its own beauty and its own hurdles. There were moments of determination and plenty of cheering each other on. Our picnics along the way were a highlight—complete with stunning views, shared sandwiches, and well-earned rests.
And of course, meeting members of the public dressed in our Children in Need spots and ears was a joy. The smiles, the comments, and the supportive waves reminded us just how special this charity is, and how powerful community spirit can be.
