Tony’s Holiday to Lanzarote

Just a few months ago, we shared Tony's ambition of travelling for a European holiday for the very first time. After months of planning, saving and preparing, that dream has now become a reality.

In June 2026, Tony travelled to Lanzarote with the staff members of his choosing, Sarah and Angela.

For Tony, this wasn't simply a week away. It was the achievement of a goal he had worked incredibly hard towards.

A Holiday Planned Around What Matters Most

Every part of the holiday reflected what was important to Tony.

Having spent months counting down to the trip, Tony experienced many firsts during the week. He flew on his first aeroplane, travelled abroad for the first time, stayed in a hotel overlooking the sea and enjoyed the warm sunshine he had always imagined.

One of the most special moments came on the longest day of the year.

Tony has always had a fascination with time, dates and the movement of the sun, so being able to stand on the beach in Lanzarote and watch the sun set on the longest day of the year was something he had talked about for a long time. He stayed up until 12.45am that day to fully embrace his dream of being abroad on the longest day of the year.

Seeing that ambition become a reality was a truly memorable moment for everyone who shared it with him.

Making the Most of Every Day

Tony embraced every opportunity throughout the holiday.

He spent time swimming and relaxing around the hotel pool, enjoyed walks along the beach, explored local bars and cafés, and experienced a music festival held on the seafront. He also visited the famous market at Teguise, where he enjoyed choosing souvenirs, gifts and clothes to remember his holiday.

As with any great holiday, there was plenty of good food too. Tony enjoyed buffet breakfasts and evening meals each day, treated himself to ice creams in the sunshine, and even sampled a few meals during his travels, making every part of the experience his own.

The team commented on how relaxed and happy Tony was throughout the week. Whether he was sunbathing by the pool, swimming in the sea or simply enjoying the atmosphere around him, it was clear he was exactly where he wanted to be.

He also thoroughly enjoyed a game of pool volleyball with fellow holiday makers, a woman from Italy and another from Derby.

Confidence Through Experience

The holiday was about much more than travelling abroad.

Everything leading up to the trip had helped Tony develop new skills, from budgeting and saving to applying for his first passport and making decisions about where he wanted to stay and what he wanted to do.

During the holiday itself, Tony continued to build his confidence by navigating airports, travelling on public transport, making purchases, trying new experiences and adapting to a completely new environment with the support of people he knew and trusted.

These are experiences that will stay with Tony long after the holiday has ended.

Making Dreams Possible

At Cocklebury Farmhouse Homes, we believe that meaningful support is about helping people live the lives they choose.

Tony's holiday is a wonderful example of what can be achieved when someone's aspirations are listened to and broken down into achievable steps. What started as a conversation about "one day" became months of planning, preparation and anticipation, culminating in an unforgettable week full of new experiences and lifelong memories.

For Tony, the highlight may well have been watching the sunset on the longest day of the year exactly as he had imagined.

For us, the highlight was seeing the pride, happiness and confidence that came from helping someone achieve something they once thought was only a dream.

 Quotes from Tony

“My favourite part of the holiday was the swimming pool as it was nice and cool”

“Going out each evening was great and I had a few pints.”

“The live music was really good”

“I really enjoyed the market”

Whilst sipping a few cocktails, Sarah and Angela discussed future travels with Tony, suggesting that since his new passport is valid for ten years, he could go on more trips. Tony took a moment to think before declaring, "I will go to Madrid next." However, upon learning that Madrid lacks a coastline, he swiftly and decisively changed his choice to Seville! We look forward to hearing all about Tony’s next plan.
