Improvements & Learning- Cocklebury Farmhouse

Our recent CQC rating at Cocklebury Farmhouse is one that we are keen to improve on. We have focused a lot of resources into meeting the standards for CQC’s Right Support, Right Care, Right Culture guidance.

The Ethos of Cocklebury Farmhouse has always been to support individuals to engage in those pursuits that bring happiness. Many people enjoy activities in the community and have a good balance of hobbies, physical activities and relaxation.

Residents that wish to, go on holidays centred around their preferences. In addition, Cocklebury Farmhouse offer the use of holiday homes (one in Porthcawl by the beach and one by a lake in South Cerney) at no accommodation cost.

We are proud to consistently remain fully staffed and have a high level of staff retention.

The following areas outline the areas of learning & Improvement.

Training

  • All staff now trained in Autism, Learning Disabilities, Talking Mats and Makaton

  • Registered Manager is undertaking a Post Graduate Certificate in Autism at the University of Birmingham

  • All staff retrained in Level 1, 2 & 3 PBS by Sherwood Training (BILD Certified). Two staff trained to Associate Trainer standard for PBS

All training above will help staff to better understand sensory and communication needs of the individuals.

Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)

  • A greater emphasis on preventative procedures and a movement to be less Risk Averse has led to a reduction in behaviours of concern.

  • Post Intervention reviews contain more detail and greater reflection by the worker in explaining what other interventions were considered and attempted and how the actions that were taken were the least restrictive.

  • The recorded debrief with the resident is more detailed, highlighting any required emotional support.

Choice, Co-Production & Greater Authenticity of Voice

  • New Keyworker system focusing on preferences and goals

  • Greater documentation about likes, dislikes and preferences. Individuals are supported to create “My Life” documents that they can show key people about what is important to them.

  • The keyworker involvement will spread through all areas of people’s lives and meet all areas of Right Support, Right Care, Right Culture. There will also be a transformation of documents in people’s Person Centred Plans to ensure they are Easy Read and co-produced.

  • Wish fulfilment and goals are important factors. This includes aspirational/ long term ambitions.
